Zelensky abandons plan to bring back Crimea militarily
In an interview with US channel Fox News, Ukrainian President Volodomir Zelensky abandoned his plans to retake Crimea from Russia.
In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea. After Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Zelensky declared that he would retake the entire Ukrainian territory from Russia, but he is now abandoning that plan.
According to Zelensky, recapturing Crimea would cost the lives of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers.
A military recapture of Crimea seems impossible for Zelensky, but he would like to have Crimea returned to Ukraine at the negotiating table. He will not recognise the Ukrainian territories now occupied by Russia as Russian territories.
