"Russian army orients troops toward the West: up to 1,500 more tanks per year"
German army chief Carsten Breuer sees a growing danger in Russia's military buildup. "We see that the Russian military is targeting the West," he states in the German newspaper "Sachsische Zeitung.
According to Breuer, within five to eight years the Russian armed forces will be equipped with enough equipment and personnel to enable an attack on NATO territory. "The Russian military is increasing the number of tanks by 1,000 to 1,500 units every year. The five largest European NATO member states together have only half of that in their inventory," Breuer explained.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius also previously warned that Putin could attack NATO "within five to eight years." Pistorius does not see a concrete danger of a Russian attack on a NATO ally at this time, but that could change soon.
