Russia threatens French: 'In that case they will inevitably be targeted'
Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, firmly believes that if the French enter the combat zone, they will inevitably end up in the line of fire of Russian troops.
Zakharova also stated that "more and more French nationals are being killed in Ukraine", reports L'Indépendant.
These statements have been causing unrest since last Wednesday. Russia is threatening, and repeating this message to anyone who will listen, that if Emmanuel Macron sends French soldiers to Ukraine, they will be "legitimate targets" for Russian forces.
While Macron likes to create a grey area around whether or not to deploy ground troops in Ukraine, invoking "strategic uncertainty", the same cannot be said of Zakharova, who spoke to the press: "We have to disappoint him. For us, there is no uncertainty: if the French appear in the conflict zone, they will inevitably become a target of Russian forces. It seems to me that Paris already has proof of that," referring to French nationals already killed on enemy territory.
