Russia badly hit: 600 million dollar up in smoke?

On 28 June, Ukraine may have destroyed one of Russia's most expensive and sophisticated air defence systems.

Ukrainian journalist Andriy Tsaplienko, reporting for Newsweek, said on his Telegram channel that an attack with an ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) fragmentation missile may have been responsible for the destruction of a Russian S-500 air defence system worth more than 600 million dollar. It also says the missile was supplied by the United States.

This information has not yet been confirmed.

For its part, the Kyiv Post reported that several bloggers had also posted articles online about the attack. These reports too could not be confirmed due to disagreements between certain bloggers, who disagreed on the course of the operation.

Petro Andryushchenko, a former adviser to Marioupol's mayor, also claimed that an S-400 might have been hit. "We are waiting for the satellite images... because some parts of the S-500 and the S-400 look similar. But even if it's the S-400, it's great too!" he wrote on Telegram.
