Putin ready to end war with Trump's help
The former White House occupant claims he could quickly end the war in Ukraine if he became president. Meanwhile, according to US media, he is conducting (secret) negotiations with Putin.
Republican candidate Donald Trump's plan is to "force Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin into negotiations by, on the one hand, threatening to reduce arms deliveries to Ukraine and, on the other, increasing arms deliveries to Kiev to increase pressure on Moscow," media outlet L'Indépendant reports.
Although the Kremlin denies the secret talks, Putin said at a press conference in Kazakhstan that he took Trump's peace plans very seriously. "Mr Trump, as a presidential candidate, says he is ready and willing to stop the war in Ukraine. We all take this very seriously".
Volodymyr Zelensky, for his part, urges Trump to reveal his plans for "ending the conflict". "If he knows how to end the war, he should tell us today," he told news agency Bloomberg this week. After all, these are plans he absolutely must know in order to prepare the country for possible threats to its independence.
Ukraine's president is not against meeting Trump. If he wins the November elections, he wants to know whether the Republican candidate will be willing to support Ukraine or whether the country will be completely abandoned.
