Putin gains key ally
The global strategic partnership treaty he concluded with North Korea gives Putin an important ally.
Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty with North Korea during his state visit to North Korea. On Wednesday, he signed the treaty with his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong-un. The treaty replaces previous documents signed between the two countries in 1961, 2000 and 2001.
According to president Putin, the treaty will be "a fundamental document that will form the long-term basis for our relations." Details about the document have not yet been disclosed.
