New target: Ukraine given the green light to hit hard
The United States has stated that North Korea’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict suggests they could become "fair targets."
This week, Washington disclosed evidence of North Korean presence in Russia, with approximately 3,000 soldiers reportedly training before being sent to the front lines.
Recent images on social media appear to show North Korean soldiers training at the Sergeevka military base. With Ukraine and South Korea also reporting the presence of North Korean troops in Russia, U.S. officials believe Kyiv may now engage these new adversaries directly.
"If they do deploy to fight against Ukraine, they're fair game," said John Kirby, the White House spokesman. "They're fair targets and the Ukrainian military will defend themselves against North Korean soldiers the same way they're defending themselves against Russian soldiers," he added.
Since the start of the conflict in February 2022, Russia has sustained significant losses in personnel and equipment and is now relying on North Korean manpower to boost its offensive capability.
