Moscow wants to test nuclear mushroom
Dmitry Suslov is deputy director of the Foreign and Defense Policy Council, a think tank in Moscow. He has floated the idea of the Kremlin using what he calls a "demonstrative" nuclear explosion.
"The political and psychological effect of a nuclear cloud, which will be broadcast live on every television channel in the world, will remind Western politicians of the one thing that has prevented wars between the superpowers since 1945 and which they have now largely lost: the fear of nuclear war," Dmitry Suslov announced.
According to Reuters, Dmitry Suslov is among the Russian security experts and lawmakers who have spoken out in favor of Russia testing a nuclear bomb to deter Western aid to Ukraine.
On May 6, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Moscow would organize a series of tactical nuclear exercises at the behest of Vladimir Putin, but the exercises are not equivalent to actually detonating a nuclear bomb.
Nevertheless, the rhetoric from Russian military experts is frightening.
