Lithuania defies Russia and launches missiles
The Lithuanian army has carried out manoeuvres in the Baltic Sea as part of operation 'Steadfast Defender 24′. "This is an important deterrent exercise," Lithuanian Defence Minister Laurinas Kasciunas said.
Steadfast Defender 24 is "NATO's largest military exercise since the Cold War". This is how the alliance defines the bond between Europe and North America, aiming to demonstrate that the allies will defend every inch of their territory and ensure protection between member states.
The exercise consists of military manoeuvres to secure the Atlantic to the Arctic, and troop movements across Europe, from the far north to central and eastern Europe. All NATO allies are participating in this series of land, sea and air operations, led by the United States.
The latest country to conduct military deterrence exercises against Russia is Lithuania. With the support of the United States, the country has launched HIMARS missiles in the Baltic Sea, the kind of missiles previously deployed by Ukraine in the war against Russian forces. These manoeuvres are a clear warning to Moscow should it have plans to act against the Baltic country.
