Death economy: Russia Survives on War
For Russia, the success of war lies in the recruitment of soldiers, which is why Moscow has developed an economy of death that boosts growth.
To find soldiers, Moscow is banking on money and social benefits that are rather attractive: real estate credit, preferential rates, access to universities without exams, comfortable retirement, and it works, since 385,000 men have signed up since 2023.
Posters are plastered everywhere to call on Russians to enlist, particularly in Tatarstan, which sends a lot of men to the frontline, and in Tatarstan, they even offer a sum of money (approximately 1000 euro bonus) if you bring a friend to the enlistment office.
3,900 euros for a soldier who enlists, that's 10 times the average salary, a bonus of 11,500 euros, but also a bonus of 100,000 euros for a soldier who dies on the battlefield. A dead Russian therefore brings more to his family than a living Russian.
This is unprecedented, because Russians have always been enlisted in the army under duress or out of patriotism. Vladimir Putin has created a completely new and different reality, based on money.
