Tourist dies as he flees from swarm of wasps
A tragedy occurred on the beach in Crotone, Italy, last weekend.
A 47-year-old Ukrainian who was vacationing in the south of Italy with his family died there when he fled from a swarm of wasps.
The tourist was allergic to wasp stings, so he immediately sprinted away when he saw a swarm of wasps suddenly appear near him. The 47-year-old engineer panicked and ran into the water, but there he suddenly fainted and did not move anymore. The man died at the scene.
At first, the emergency services thought that the wasps had stung the man, causing him to suffer allergic shock. However, no stings were found in his body during the autopsy. Presumably, he died of a heart attack or cardiac arrest.
The wasps also attacked emergency workers. Consequently, part of the beach was closed off so that the nests of nearby wasps could be destroyed first.
