Couple buys dream home and disappears...22 years later, it's impossible to find them
In 2002, in Aubusson (a French town located in the Creuse region), an Irish couple bought a large residence...and never set foot in it. 22 years later, the Irish couple remains nowhere to be found.
The house has been unoccupied since the date of its purchase. It is now in a terrible state and on the verge of collapse. Having never been lived in by its Irish owners, the house is greatly in lack of maintenance.
“In 22 years, the house has never been renovated. It therefore endangers the safety of residents: tiles fall from the roof and the facade crumbles,” reports France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine, relayed by Demotivateur. Despite having installed a protective net and perimeter security, threat still looms. The neighbors testify: “We have humidity all over the walls because the house next door is collapsing. We cannot do any work until it is demolished.”
In order to enighten local residents, Stéphane Ducourtioux, the mayor of the Creuse subprefecture, turned towards justice. He tried to contact the owners several times, to no avail. “They are untraceable, unreachable,” he declared. Although the courts have given their agreement to demolish the house, the mayor still has a lump in his throat: “This deconstruction is the owner's responsibility, but now, it's the municipality which intervenes on behalf of the owner. We are working at a loss, we know perfectly well that we will never see the money invested to do this ever again.”
