TikTok restores connection after Donald Trump pledges to delay ban
TikTok announced on Sunday that it would remain operational in the United States following Donald Trump’s decision to delay the app's ban by three months.
The incoming U.S. president stated on his social media platform, Truth Social, that he plans to sign an executive order giving the Chinese-owned video-sharing app additional time to secure a buyer in the U.S. or face permanent removal.
To save TikTok, Trump suggested that the U.S. government or a local company should acquire a 50% stake in the platform.
"By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to say (sic) up. Without US approval, there is no TikTok. With our approval, it is worth hundreds of billions of dollars – maybe trillions," he wrote.
In April 2024, Congress passed a law requiring TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, to hand over its US operations to a local company or risk being banned from the country.
