“A calamity": The pope violently lashes out at Donald Trump
With the inauguration of Donald Trump, Pope Francis is concerned about the policies being implemented in the United States.
In an interview on Italian television on Sunday, the pontiff described the new US president's promised plan for the large-scale deportation of undocumented migrants as a “calamity”. “If it's true, it will be a calamity, because it would make poor unfortunate people who have nothing pay,” he said.
At the dawn of his second term in office, the Republican billionaire has pledged to “clear” his country of the eleven million or so undocumented immigrants living in the United States. He assures us that he will carry out “the largest deportation operation in American history”.
Back in February 2016, Pope Francis sharply criticized Donald Trump's anti-migrant stance: “Anyone who only wants to build walls and not bridges is not a Christian.”
