Radio host calls for shooting the Belgian prime minister

In the mean time Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo has already personally spoken with local radio host Marc Verleyen. But it was still a bit of a shock when DJ Marc Verleyen on the local Belgian radio station 'Waregem1' this week after a news bulletin about the assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, suddenly called on Belgians to shoot their own prime minister as well.

"To all those who consider shooting Alexander De Croo but don't dare to do so because of the security around the guy... You see it is possible to shoot a prime minister. I would say go ahead."  Those were the hallucinatory words suddenly heard on the local West Flanders radio station.

Listeners and the mayor of Waregem informed the prime minister of the statements, and he decided to file a complaint.

Apologies and guilt
De Croo contacted the radio DJ in question personally and entered into a conversation with him. That was a successful conversation because the West Flanders radio producer realizes that he went way too far. According to the Belgian prime minister, the DJ is currently "in sackcloth and ashes." "He understands that he has gone way too far. It was a very emotional conversation. He also understands that he put me and especially my family, my wife and my children, in danger. He has apologized extensively. I think it's good that we spoke to each other, but he also absolutely understands why I feel so strongly about it and why I took that step to file a complaint."
