How could two teenage sisters drown in the same hotel pool?
Two French sisters, aged 16 and 19 respectively, were vacationing with their parents and two other children at a hotel on the Greek vacation island of Rhodes. However, their vacation ended in complete tragedy. Hotel guests suddenly saw the youngest sister's body floating motionless in the water. This tragedy happened in the summer of 2019.
Emergency services rushed to the scene to the hotel southeast of Rhodes and rushed the victim to the hospital. However, the girl could no longer be saved and died. Only when the ambulance had already left the hotel again, bystanders suddenly also saw the body of the 19-year-old sister lying at the bottom of the pool. She too appeared to have drowned.
In Greek media, the mother of the French victims revealed that her daughters could not swim. Surveillance footage shows that they were first in the least deep of the three pools, but apparently later decided to try the deepest as well. This hubris became fatal to them.
The hotel lifeguard and manager were taken by police and questioned. According to bathers, a lifeguard was indeed present at the time of the tragic incident, but was constantly on his smartphone.
