There appears to be a breakthrough after more than ten months in the disappearance case that has long kept France awake. The investigation has been reopened. 

A few days ago, DNA traces of the missing girl were found in the car of her alleged kidnapper, who allegedly committed suicide after his car was impounded. 

15-year-old Lina disappeared on 23 September while on foot on her way from her home to the station of Saint-Blaise-la-Roche, in the French Vosges region. She was supposed to take the train there to Strasbourg to visit her boyfriend Tao (19), but never arrived there. The boyfriend had been questioned several times by the police, but to no avail.

The investigation revealed that the girl was probably taken away in a car. A witness claimed he saw her in a grey car on the day of the disappearance and that she even waved at him. Another teenage girl then again stepped to the police and stated that she felt she was followed by someone in a grey car at the time. The police have now been able to find out the identity of this driver.

The investigation is said to have suddenly gained momentum with the identification of a suspect, a man police officers and magistrates believe to be Lina's abductor. The suspected driver of the vehicle reportedly committed suicide after his car was impounded and DNA traces of Lina were found in the vehicle, according to French media.

Excavations are taking place this week to recover the teenage girl's body.
