Blood-laden drones fly across London skies
Today, far from the battlefield, we understand the immense usefulness of these flying machines.
Capturing beautiful images on vacation, monitoring or trapping the enemy in times of war... This time, drones have a completely different vocation. A British start-up, Apian, in collaboration with the company Wing and local authorities (the British National Health Service), is now enabling the delivery of blood samples by drone to hospitals, reports TechCrunch, relayed by Korii.
The transfer will take place between two hospitals: Guy's Hospital and St Thomas' Hospital. Whether it's for blood clotting disorders or emergencies following surgical procedures, this blood will be able to help many patients in record time, less than 2 minutes flat. Everything will be supervised by the CAA, the Civil Aviation Authority.
Other advantages? Blood quality that is not altered, CO2 emissions are significantly reduced and roads, already heavily laden with traffic, are decongested.
This is the implementation of a pilot program, which will only last 6 months. Depending on the effectiveness of the plan and the results recorded, other hospitals in London will be able to benefit from this technology for transporting blood. Tests are also carried out on blood platelets.
