Unsatisfied, Vladimir Putin loses his cool
Vladimir Putin has dismissed his ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov.
A decree announcing his departure was published on the official government website, stating that Anatoly Antonov had been "relieved of his duties" as Russia’s envoy in Washington, D.C.
The decree, dated October 10, was signed by the Russian president, but no reason was given for his sudden dismissal. According to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, the diplomat returned to Moscow last week.
Earlier this week, the Kremlin announced that a new ambassador would be appointed soon to replace Anatoly Antonov.
When asked about the impact of this news on diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Russia, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that nothing had changed and that Antonov's successor would be named "in a timely manner," as reported by Reuters.
