UN issues serious ultimatum
Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, has called for the elimination of nuclear weapons, which he described as "instruments of death."
The head of the United Nations urged countries to show "foresight" in eradicating these devastating weapons, as the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to a group opposed to the use of nuclear arms.
"Nuclear weapons remain a clear and present danger to humanity, once again appearing in the daily rhetoric of international relations," he said.
"It's time for world leaders to be as clear-sighted as the hibakusha and recognize nuclear weapons for what they are: instruments of death that offer no safety, no protection, no security. The only way to eliminate the threat of nuclear weapons is to eliminate them entirely," Antonio Guterres declared.
These statements come as Russia continues to regularly threaten the West with its nuclear arsenal.
