"Ukraine can and will stop Putin"
US President Joe Biden has promised Ukraine additional air defence systems.
The US will supply this equipment along with Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Italy in the coming months. Biden announced this at a ceremony to celebrate NATO's 75th anniversary.
According to a joint press release from the five countries, the US will provide an additional Patriot air defence system. In addition, the US and Ukraine's other partners will also deliver "dozens of tactical air defence systems" in the coming months. These include NASAMS, HAWK, Gepard and IRIS-T type systems. "These systems will expand and strengthen Ukraine's air defence coverage," the press release reads.
According to Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin wants in Ukraine "nothing less than the total subjugation of Ukraine, the end of Ukrainian democracy and the destruction of Ukrainian culture", he said. Russia wants to "wipe Ukraine off the map", he echoed. "Make no mistake: Ukraine can and will stop Putin," Biden said at the event.
