Search of European Parliament: looking for Russian interference
Belgian courts raided the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday morning.
The search is part of an investigation into Russian interference. More specifically, for the judicial investigation into news website Voice of Europe. Through the Voice of Europe website, pro-Russian propaganda is allegedly being spread. Thus, a Moscow-funded network allegedly wants to influence the June European elections.
The Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office also opened an investigation into Russian interference in the European Parliament. As part of that investigation, a search took place in the office of an MEP on Wednesday. In addition to that search of the office of an EU Parliament employee, the investigating judge would also order a search of the employee's home in Schaerbeek. And investigators would also conduct a search in his office in Strasbourg.
