“Likely new assassination attempt by 'Trump supporter' prevented”
Saturday afternoon, police arrested a heavily armed 49-year-old man in Coachella, near a campaign rally of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
The suspect was arrested already before Trump's arrival. He was carrying multiple fake passports and driver's licenses under different names with him, was driving an unregistered vehicle with a fake license plate and had loaded weapons with him. So reports local sheriff Chad Bianco. “An assassination attempt was avoided,” states the local sheriff. But the prime suspect himself, dismisses those accusations as nonsense.
“None of us could have known what was going on in his head. But if you ask me now, my officers probably prevented the third assassination attempt on Trump,” said the sheriff, who, by the way, is an open Trump supporter, at a press conference.
The man was stopped in his car. He was found to be carrying a rifle, a loaded handgun and a high-capacity, unlicensed magazine. He was able to be arrested without incident.
However, the prime suspect was already released again Saturday night on a 5,000 dollar bail. He is due to appear before a local court on January 2.
The Press-Enterprise writes that he is a registered Republican, and in an interview with Southern California News Group, the 49-year-old suspect himself says he is a Trump supporter, and that he is “shocked” that he was arrested and accused of trying to attack Trump. Miller calls the allegations “absolute nonsense.”
