Influential Democrat calls on confused Biden to retire

Leading Democrat in the House of Representatives Adam Smith asks President Joe Biden loud and clear to end his candidacy for president.

In a letter and an interview, Biden expressed his determination to continue and that only "the Lord" could call him back. But within his own party, discontent is growing and they realize that his mental preparedness has become a major problem in the meantime.

Smith, the top Democrat on the Armed Services Committee in the House of Representatives, suggested that polls clearly indicated that voters felt he was too old to be an effective candidate and then president for the next four years.

"The president's performance during the debate was alarming to see and the American people have made it clear that they no longer see him as a credible candidate to serve another four years as president," Smith said in a statement.

He said the president should step aside "as soon as possible" but that he would support him "unconditionally" if he insisted on staying on as the nominee. In doing so, Smith showed that he is in good spirits with Biden.
