George Clooney's desperate appeal toward Joe Biden
The Hollywood actor, who calls himself a Democrat, called for the president's resignation in a New York Times article, "It's a matter of age, nothing more.... With this president, we won't win in November."
Actor and director George Clooney, a staunch Democrat who participated in several U.S. presidential campaigns and supported the re-election of President Joe Biden, joined his party's voices Wednesday in calling on the president to withdraw from the race and make way for a new candidate.
Mr. Clooney added that his views were privately shared by many members of Congress and senators.
The American actor, who organized a fundraiser for Joe Biden with actress Julia Roberts last month, made clear his support for the president. "I consider him a friend and I believe in him. I believe in his character. I believe in his morality."
But Clooney also said that "the only battle he (Biden) cannot win is the battle against time. None of us can," he said, pointing out that the Biden seeking re-election now is not the same Biden he was in 2010, when he was vice president.
