Biden sounds the alarm in his farewell address to the Nation

In his latest speech from the Oval Office, the Democrat warns of the risks of the return of Trump and his powerful allies and urges reforms to preserve democracy.

President Joe Biden focused more on defending the country's idea of democracy and warning of the risks and dangers it faces with the return of Donald Trump and his allies than on cementing his own legislative legacy of the past four years and five decades of political life.

“There's a dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a few ultra-rich and there will be dangerous consequences if their abuse of power goes unchecked,” he declared.

“An oligarchy of extreme wealth, power and influence is forming in the United States and literally threatens our entire democracy, our fundamental rights and freedoms and the opportunity for everyone to have a fair chance to get ahead.”

“Americans are being buried under an avalanche of misinformation that enables the abuse of power. Free press is collapsing. Social media networks have abandoned fact-checking,” the Democratic president also said, in a clear allusion to the recent decision by Mark Zuckerberg's company Meta to track Elon Musk's X on Facebook and Instagram and remove fact-checking mechanisms from their platforms.
