Europe is in despair: Cyclone Boris claims its first deaths
Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania will soon be faced with Cyclone Boris. A lot of rain is expected. Locally, 300 to 400 litres of water per square metre may fall, or even more in some places.
Local authorities are doing everything they can to prevent the impending disaster and ensure the safety of the population.
In Romania, four people have already lost their lives due to the floods. The victims were found dead after searches in the south-east of the country, in the Galati region. In the Czech Republic, 63,000 families are already without electricity, while in Poland, residents of several streets along the Biała Głuchołaska River were evacuated during the night of Friday to Saturday. The Germans are also preparing to face the impact of the cyclone, particularly in the border area with Poland and the Czech Republic.
In the Alps, fresh snow fell in places from 1,400 meters above sea level.
