This is why you always eat a bag of chips in one go

You know that feeling when you flop on the couch in the evening with a packet of chips... and before you know it, the bag is empty? Why do we unconsciously keep eating until the bag is empty?

Here are 3 factors that play a role:

Salt
Crisps contain fat, salt and often additional addictive substances such as sugar and additives (E621) as a flavour enhancer.
When we start eating a bag of chips, our highly evolved brain thinks of the times, centuries ago, when food was scarce. Eating chips triggers a reward response in the brain.

Situation
We usually eat a bag of chips while we are doing something else: watching TV, waiting for the train or in the car... and we keep eating. The addictive substances do their job very well here.

Your personality
Some people can resist the addictive substances in chips better than others.
First and foremost, make sure you have eaten a filling and healthy meal. This will reduce your craving for other unhealthy foods. You can control your chip binge by choosing organic chips. They're seasoned with natural spices and contain a lot less salt.
