The trend of the moment: the 'adults only' holiday
Do you want to be carefree in the sun during the short holiday you take and not be disturbed by crying or weeping children? Do you want to rekindle the fire in your relationship instead of being constantly reminded of your role as a parent? Then an adults-only holiday is definitely for you. As a matter of fact, this hype is gaining popularity all over the world.
More and more hotels are profiling themselves as 'adults only' hotels. And so you can take that quite literally: children are not welcome there. And that concept seems to be hugely popular with adult travellers.
"The industry has seen that there is demand for it and is now capitalising on it," says Piet Demeyere, spokesman for TUI in Belgium in a reaction to this trend in Het Nieuwsblad. "Meanwhile, about 15 per cent of our offer is already adults-only, and about two per cent is added every year. And when the offer is there, the holidaymaker also follows. This summer, 14.7 per cent of our guests are already travelling to childless hotels. In the last normal year before corona, it was only 12 per cent."
Other tour operators are also noticing the rising interest in this travel option. Often, these hotels then choose to replace their water park with a wellness or invest more in a cosy bar or gastronomic assets.
