Clients shun McDonald’s as cases of contamination soar
The number of people infected with the E. coli bacteria after eating at McDonald’s continues to climb, with 75 cases now reported, according to U.S. health authorities.
At least 22 people are currently hospitalized, and cases have spread across 13 U.S. states. So far, one person has died after consuming a burger from the fast-food chain.
Among the 42 people who fell ill, all reported eating at McDonald’s, and 39 of them specifically mentioned eating a hamburger.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it is conducting thorough investigations to identify the source of the contamination, with onions already suspected as the likely cause.
McDonald’s onion supplier has issued a "voluntary recall" of its products to help prevent further infections.
No cases of contamination have been reported outside the U.S., but McDonald’s popular Quarter Pounder with Cheese burger is at the center of discussions and may be the source of the health issue.
