Beer twice as expensive due to global warming?
Beer lovers have reason to worry about global warming. A British study shows that the harvest of barley, one of the main ingredients of beer, could suffer greatly from long periods of heat and drought.
Researchers used computer models to determine the impact of global warming on barley cultivation in 34 regions around the world: the harvest could be 3 to 17 percent lower.
A smaller supply of barley means less production of beer and therefore also a price increase.
The researchers point to the role of beer in society, but also admit that a more expensive pint is not as significant in comparison to the other consequences of global warming.
