"This is the country Putin could attack next"
In the British tabloid The Sun, David Petraeus, the former director of the CIA, gave a clear warning of Russia and Putin's objectives.
David Petraeus mentioned Moldova as a possible target for Moscow in the event of a Russian victory in Ukraine. "He wouldn't be satisfied to stop with Ukraine. Moldova clearly would be next". He raised the possibility of an expansion of the conflict "if Putin succeeds in Ukraine'". Moldova would not be the only target: "After that it might be Lithuania or one of the other Baltic states", Petraeus said.
He also stressed that the West should do "everything humanly possible" to support Ukraine. His comments echoed those of Latvian president Edgars Rinkevics. "If Russia feels it has won in Ukraine the temptation will be for it to continue... if it feels it was defeated, the desire will be for revenge," Rinkevics said.
