If American troops appear in Ukraine, Russia will treat them as "interventionists".

A few weeks ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave an interview to Russia 1 and the Russian news agency Ria Novosti in which he threatened American soldiers.

Mr. Putin gave no further details about his exact response should this scenario really occur.

Meanwhile, in the same interview, Putin called Sweden and Finland's recent NATO membership "an insignificant step".

Russia is nevertheless responding to Finland's membership by "sending troops and military equipment to the border with Finland", according to Putin.
