NATO seeking nuclear conflict says Kremlin
Russia has accused NATO of fueling tensions after the military alliance conducted a nuclear weapons exercise on Monday.
NATO launched its ‘Steadfast Noon’ plan, involving 60 aircraft from eight bases across 13 countries. The exercise, jointly hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands, will last for nearly two weeks.
The drills are taking place about 900 km from Russia, which has deeply displeased the Kremlin, according to government spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
"In the conditions of a hot war, which is being waged within the framework of the Ukrainian conflict, of course, such exercises lead to nothing but further escalation of tension," Peskov said, according to local media.
He added that Moscow would not engage in discussions with the U.S. regarding the use of nuclear weapons since Washington is too involved in the Ukraine conflict.
In a statement, President Joe Biden expressed his willingness to hold talks with Russia, China, and North Korea on nuclear issues "without preconditions to reduce the nuclear threat."
