Here's how to stay balanced during those busy holidays
Family gathered around the table for Christmas dinner, fun music and lots of activity. Getting cozy together is what we want in this month of traditions, after all. But what if all those preparations and the party itself start to look like a “war of attrition” for you?
These tricks will get you through this period
Be aware that it is usually you yourself who sets such high standards for yourself. Not everything can or should be perfect! Your tablemates don't expect you to do everything on your own. And know that it is everyone present who contributes to that cozy atmosphere.
Wearing a nice Christmas or New Year's outfit can be fun. However, choose an outfit in which you feel comfortable: no squishy shoes or tights, no dress that is a bit tight, no suit that is too tight in which you can't wait to take it off ...
Try to take moments for yourself in the days before the party and also during the preparations.
Go for a walk outside, take a long bath ... Your family and friends will understand that you want to take a moment for yourself. This will give you some time to recharge.
When the table gets a little too busy for you, turn your attention to yourself: focus on your breathing to calm yourself down.
You can also agree to take a break after each course or after a while. At such a time, let the children speak for a moment. Let them tell you what the traditions of Christmas and New Year mean to them.
Know that by having a positive atmosphere at the table, everyone will appreciate the fellowship and food more!
