“North Korean soldiers didn't know they were going to fight Ukraine”
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, North Korean soldiers were transported to Russian territory by ferry, then by train, and kept in total isolation as far as information was concerned.
Mr. Zelensky said that intelligence officers had questioned the North Korean soldiers about their transport to Russian territory, their training and their total isolation. The prisoners' statements confirmed these details.
“All the facts concerning North Korea's participation in this war will be established,” wrote Mr. Zelensky.
According to the North Korean soldier, after arriving in Russia, some North Korean troops were trained in the use of Russian heavy equipment. However, he said he had not personally received this training.
The prisoner introduced himself as a reconnaissance soldier and said his mother didn't know where he was.
“A hundred of us traveled on the boat, a Russian cargo ship. There were only people on board, no equipment. The same group of people on the ferry were also on the train. The train had six tables and sleeping areas, housing around 100 people in total,” he said.
The soldier explained that he had joined the army just after high school, at the age of 17, and had been trained as a reconnaissance specialist.
He also said he didn't know he was going to fight Ukraine.
