“Apocalypse missile": Moscow's new nuclear torpedo
The Poseidon, also known as the Status-6, is a Russian nuclear torpedo. It represents a new category of strategic weapon, distinguished by its ability to evade defense systems and its destructive potential.
The Poseidon uses a nuclear reactor that gives it a virtually unlimited range. Its NATO name is Kanyon. The Poseidon is one of six experimental Russian “superweapons”.
According to the Pentagon, Russia carried out the first test launch of the Poseidon on November 27, 2016, using a special submarine in the Arctic Ocean.
It can reach speeds of 200km/h and operate at depths of up to 1,000 meters. It weighs over 90 tons, has a diameter of 2 meters and a length of over 18 meters.
It's probably the largest torpedo ever developed and deployed in the world.
The Poseidon is designed to carry conventional and nuclear payloads, with an explosion capacity of up to two megatons. It can be used to attack coastal cities or groups of aircraft carriers, creating “radioactive tsunamis” and causing extensive damage in affected areas.
