IS supporter applied as steward at EURO 2024
Last Friday, a suspected Muslim extremist was detained at Cologne-Bonn airport, in Germany. It now appears that he had applied to act as a steward outside the stadium at the upcoming European Football Championships in Germany.
Germany is taking extreme security measures for the upcoming European Football Championship that starts on Friday. The country fears violence from hooligans, acts of terror and cyber attacks.
That the fears are well-founded is shown by the arrest of a man with links to a group related to Islamic State. The man also appears to have applied for accreditation to work as a security guard and security officer for activities outside the stadium, such as big-screen events for the general public. While checking that accreditation, the security services became aware of his extreme ideas, a reason to detain the man.
