Is Slovakia helping Putin make money?
Upon learning of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's visit to Moscow, Volodymyr Zelensky couldn't contain his anger.
The Ukrainian president said on Monday that he thought “such help to Putin is immoral”. The old, openly pro-Russian Robert Fico was on his way to Moscow. Volodymyr Zelensky accused him of “helping Putin earn money to finance the war”.
He added: “Why is this leader so dependent on Moscow?”, suspecting Robert Fico of being “paid” by Russia for this rapprochement. For his part, the Slovak leader said on his Facebook account that he had taken the decision to meet Putin after the Ukrainian president confirmed at the European summit that he would end the transit of Russian gas to Europe by the end of 2024, reports L'Echo.
According to Zelensky, all the compensation proposals that could have been made to the Slovak Prime Minister ended in failure. “We have offered him solutions regarding potential compensation for Slovaks [...] for losses related to Russian transit, as well as alternatives for transit - any other, non-Russian gas, at the request of the European Commission,” he said.
