Germany feeling uneasy: fear of Russian sabotage is growing
On Wednesday, a German air base was temporarily closed for fear of sabotage. Additional security measures were also taken at another NATO base for similar reasons.
Fears of sabotage of military installations are growing in Germany, as strong indications of acts of sabotage have already been found. According to the German military, a hole was discovered Wednesday morning in the fence of the base in Wahn near Cologne, in western Germany, near the on-site drinking water plant. Then at the NATO Geilenkirchen Air Base, where AWACS reconnaissance aircraft are stationed, another attempted break-in took place Tuesday evening. Germany is supporting Ukraine in its fight with the Russian occupier, and as a result, it is itself coming into Putin's crosshairs.
Back in June, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said there were indications that Russian intelligence is becoming increasingly active in countries of the alliance.
