"Europe is the real target of Putin's war"

Raphaël Glucksmann, the French Socialists' list leader for the European elections, appeared on French news channel LCI to explain his programme and talk about the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

For Raphaël Glucksmann, the timing of this conflict is crucial.

"We are behind with all our arms deliveries. We don't deliver grenades. We refuse to deliver planes. And if we deliver missiles, we prohibit the Ukrainians from using them to hit military bases targeting Ukraine. So the Ukrainians must get permission. Whether they do is not a subject for literary debate. It has to be done, and it is all extremely urgent."

The French Socialists' list leader has a clear vision of what needs to be done.

"Why is the Ukrainian front in a disastrous situation? Because we have not done the job in Europe, because our leaders have remained indolent and weak, and because they have not reorganised our production lines, and because France has continued to supply arms to Doha, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia."

Glucksmann therefore wants France and Europe to understand the seriousness of the situation.

"The future of our continent is at stake right now in Ukraine. So now we have to get serious. Help Ukraine intensively. And understand one thing: if the Ukrainian front collapses, the whole of Europe will be destabilised. Vladimir Putin is not targeting the Donbass, he is not targeting Crimea. We, the European democracies, we Europeans, are the target of Vladimir Putin's war."
