"10 minutes away": Putin repeats his threats
With Washington planning to deploy long-range missiles in Germany as early as 2026, Vladimir Putin warns that Russia could retaliate by positioning missiles of the same caliber to strike the West.
Even though these threats might have been heard before, this time the warning comes from the head of the Kremlin himself. In a Navy Day speech, Putin warned on Sunday that the US deployment of these weapons risked provoking a new crisis similar to that of the Cold War.
"The flight time of such missiles to reach targets on our territory will be around 10 minutes. In the future, these missiles could be equipped with nuclear warheads" said the Russian head of state.
He added: "We will take similar deployment measures, taking into account the actions of the United States and its satellites in Europe and other regions of the world.
