Baltic states soon to actually disconnect from Russia

Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have informed Russia and Belarus that they do not want to be connected to their power grids from February 2025. Indeed, the Baltic states will connect to the European power grid via Poland from next year. And this is being achieved thanks to European Union support.

Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are members of NATO and the EU. Yet they still depend on Russia for a stable power supply. With EU support, the three countries did decide to switch to the Continental Europe system in 2018. "Within six months, we will not only disconnect from the Russian and Belarusian power grid, we will also dismantle the last remaining power cables," states Rokas Masiulis, the director of the power grid operator in Lithuania.
