Inmates train future guide dogs for the blind
Inmates in the Czech Republic are helping train future guide dogs for the blind as part of a rehabilitation program.
At the Jirice prison, located northeast of the capital Prague, two inmates nearing the end of their sentences are dedicating part of their time to training dogs destined to become guides for the visually impaired.
Zeus and Zirkon, two chocolate Labradors barely two months old, are currently being pre-trained by the prisoners. David Hejny, one of the inmates, shared that he finds this task "beneficial" for his mental well-being.
The puppies, who arrived in November, will spend a year at the prison undergoing training before obtaining their guide dog certification.
Roman Farkas, the specialized trainer overseeing the project, explained that the initiative helps inmates develop their "work skills" while providing an outlet to relieve the stress of prison life.
