Unknown dangerous disease kills 143 people in Democratic Republic of Congo
An unidentified disease has killed 143 people in a province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, local authorities revealed to Reuters.
Those infected exhibited flu-like symptoms, including fever and headaches, according to Remy Saki, Vice Governor of the Kwango province, and Apollinaire Yumba, the provincial health minister, who spoke on Monday.
A medical team has been dispatched to the Panzi area to collect samples and conduct analyses to identify the mysterious illness.
"Panzi is a rural health zone, so there is a problem with the supply of medicines," he said.
Cephorien Manzanza, a civil society leader, described the situation as deeply alarming, noting that the number of infected individuals is rising daily.
Regional epidemiologists report that women and children are the most affected by the disease.
