Top dart player 'The Hurricane' badly mauled in attack by Brussels youths
Top Belgian dart player Kim Huybrechts was attacked by a group of youths just after a football match on Thursday.
Huybrechts (38) was attending the cup final in Brussels between his favourite team Antwerp and Union. The Antwerp players saw the cup pass them by, but then the worst was yet to come for the Belgian icon of the darts world.
Huybrechts and his friend Kevin Belmans were attacked by a group of 'Brussels youths' on their way to the supporters' buses. The current Belgian number two suffered a double shoulder fracture. By the way, it is the shoulder of his throwing arm. A true tragedy for a professional dart player.
According to witnesses, the Belgian darter was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is unclear for now how long Huybrechts will be out.
'The Hurricane' is thus in the sack indefinitely and that will affect the rest of his season. Consequently, the World Cup of Darts, where he has been a regular for many years and would play alongside Dimitri Van den Bergh, seems to go up in smoke.
