Some strong spying: Children of Russian spies didn't even know they were Russians
The children of two Russian spies involved in the historic prisoner swap were told on the flight from Istanbul to Moscow that they were not Argentine but Russian nationals. Little did they know this and they were greeted at Moscow airport by somebody called Vladimir Putin, a man they did not know at all. A strong piece of undercover work by their parents!
The family spoke Spanish among themselves and their children were unaware of their job as spies for the Kremlin. Originally from Argentina, the family had been living in Slovenia since 2017. Together with their 2 children (a girl and a boy aged 8 and 11 respectively), they lived in a quiet neighbourhood on the outskirts of the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. But in 2022, the authorities discovered their double life: they were spies for Russia! Maria and Ludwig were Russian secret agents, spies so to speak. Paid by the Russian secret service. By the way, their real names turned out to be Artem and Anna Doeltsev.
The Russian couple and their two children Sofia and Gabriel returned home on Wednesday after the biggest prisoner exchange between the West and Russia since the Cold War.
