"Paris becomes a prison"
As many as 44,000 fences are currently being installed along the Seine in Paris to secure the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
On Friday 26 July, the Paris Olympics will kick off with the opening ceremony on the Seine. Police and security forces face the particularly difficult task of securing that ceremony. They have already started erecting some 44,000 fences on Paris' footpaths along the Seine. Much to the dismay of Parisians and tourists.
Neighbours complain about buses no longer running on their normal route or inaccessible footpaths, restaurant and shop owners have fewer clients, tourists feel as if they are in a prison.
According to the Paris police prefecture, the fences will disappear after the opening ceremony and crossings will be organised in the meantime.
