Panic before the start of the Olympics: man attacks soldier with knife
A 40-year-old Frenchman born in Congo injured a soldier with a knife in central Paris.
The attack took place near the Gare de l'Est station. The perpetrator was already known to the court for a murder he committed in 2018. He was interned in a closed mental institute for the murder.
Ahead of the Olympics, nerves are tense in the French capital. The terror level there is currently at an all-time high, and soldiers from the Sentinelle operation's anti-terror patrol are armed and moving around Paris and other cities in small groups. It was a soldier from that Sentinelle operation who was attacked by the 40-year-old perpetrator with a knife.
