Nepalese climber conquers Mount Everest for 29th time
On Sunday, Nepalese mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa reached the summit of Mount Everest for the 29th time. In doing so, he beat his own record of most ascents of the world's highest mountain.
Kami Rita Sherpa has been a mountain guide for more than 20 years. He first reached the summit of Everest, 8849 metres high, in 1994. Since then, he has climbed the world's highest mountain almost every year in expeditions in which he guides clients of an expedition organiser to the top.
This year, Nepal has issued 414 permits to climb Mount Everest during the climbing season that stretches from April to early June. Some 800 people will attempt to reach the summit. Last year, more than 600 people made it to the top, but 18 people died in their attempt.
